Alternate Promethean - Thaumiel
The Lord of Endowments is a powerful daemon of the Omnissiah. He stands at the boundary between the primal and the advanced, uplifting the former and teaching the latter to no longer fear what is once unknowable. He is said to be responsible for the gifts of fire, learning and civilization. This makes him a popular figure among the transhumanists.
Unfortunately, such a heavy investment in the Materium tethered the Lord of Endowments and made him mortal. Neither his personal might nor his many, many augmentations could help him with his mortality. Although death was inevitable, that doesn't mean he didn't make any preparations. His death resulted in his fragmentation into the mind, body, and spirit. His spirit returned to the Omnissiah in the Warp while his mind was suffused into the invisible network of all devices. As for his body, he made sure it would be scavenged so that his successors would carry on his legacy. However, he made one little error: without any further bindings his body can be salvaged and repurposed by anyone under any banner, not just followers of the Omnissiah. Oops.
Thaumiels are powerful cyborgs created from the techno-organic flesh from the deceased Lord of Endowments, stitched together with dozens of anti-anomalous components and the flow of a Pyros reactor. They face the most incomprehensible horrors of the wheel with the necessary equipment to level the playing field.
Tell:
A Thaumiel's tell is the activation of their esoteric defenses. Even if the Pyros is spent on something else, the flow of passing energy still fuels those components. At first his thin force field against anomalous threats flare up, turning brighter in slow pulses. As Pyros is spent more defenses become prevalent including protective glyphs both covering the Thaumiel's body and floating in the air nearby.
Power Stat: Generation
Resource Stat: Pyros
Power | Replaced With |
Disquiet | Detached (cosmetic) |
Integrated Armour | Integrated Aura |
Integrated Weapons | Integrated Warding |
Transhuman Potential | Anti-Cognitohazard Filtration |
Recharge | Thaumaturgic Absorption |
Warstrider | Reality Anchor |
Detached: A Thaumiel is perennially out of touch with normal society. He takes a -2k1 to all social rolls against non-exalts. Partly this is because their extreme preparations against the anomalous have fundamentally warped away from the cultural baseline. This is also, though, a partly magical effect.
Arcanoi | Power Gained |
✱ | Integrated Aura A Thaumiel has Aura equal to his Generation+3. |
✱✱ | Integrated Warding: A Thaumiel gains a free raise on tests to resist effects from magical and supernatural sources. This includes saving throws against spells, effects of warp phenomena, and weapon properties from artifact weapons. |
✱✱✱ | Cognitohazard Filtration: A Thaumiel may spend 1 Pyros to avoid gaining insanity, rolling on the shock table, or harmful sensory inputs that aren't from spells. He may also be unaffected a spell with the Mind-Affecting keyword by spending Pyros equal to its level. |
✱✱✱✱ | Thaumaturgic Absorption: Whenever a Thaumiel suffers damage from a spell, they recover 1 spent Pyros for every hit point they lose from it. |
✱✱✱✱✱ | Reality Anchor: A Thaumiel may project a small field that stabilizes reality to baseline levels. For one scene per day, the Thaumiel doubles the Aura from his Integrated Warding and makes all space within 10m counted as being in the Materium. Incorporeal creatures inside their field lose the Phasing trait and become tangible at the start of their turn. Psychic Phenomena and Perils of the Warp that occur inside this space get a -25 modifier to the roll, preventing entirely it if the result becomes 0 or lower. |
Thaumiel Countermeasure Assets
HELSING
"Anti-memes" aren't bad jokes on a data slate, but frustrating self-censoring entities that you are going to kill even if everyone else doesn't remember why. Gain the feats Eidetic Memory and Inquisitorial Eye. You may spend 1 Pyros to gain combat advantage against any creature benefiting from concealment and ignore concealment bonuses to their static defense until the end of the turn.
ESCHER
Gravity is a harness, a harness that can be harnessed. Gain the feats Feather Step and Impeded by Nothing. You may spend 1 Pyros as a free action to freely tilt your personal gravity, allowing you to orient yourself so that all solid surfaces like walls and ceilings pull you "down". This effect lasts until the end of the scene but you must remain in contact with the surface. It ends early if you lose contact (e.g. jumping, surface is destroyed) or you are moved against your will (e.g. bull rush, knock down, etc), after which you fall as normal.
LONGINUS
It is not enough to withstand a psyker's attacks, you must eliminate the source. Gain the Spell Shield feat. You may spend 1 Pyros to give your non-spell attacks made this turn the Felling and Festering properties against targets that have cast a spell since their last turn.
BERTILAK
Sometimes the most dangerous enemy to face is plain attrition. Limited nanomachine infusions let you heal naturally and you may spend Pyros outside of combat to recover hit points, both up to your Willpower+Constitution. Healing from this asset does not let you rebuild missing body parts. Triple-layer redundancies prevent you from falling unconscious from the destruction of your Body or Head, but you become blind and mute if your head is destroyed. Attacks that would hit your destroyed Head or Body instead go to your Gizzards.
