Is the avatar of a god the same as the god? No. Are they independent of the god they come from?

So they are like extensions of that god, and are mindless?

Put another way: Is a single facet independent of the diamond?

Put another way: Is a single facet independent of the diamond? No, the diamond sees the facet as an extention of itself.

I think of it as the difference between a mascot or representative of a brand, and the CEO of the brand's corporation. Like Sora Tokino is the face of Hololive but YAGOO is the chief of staff.
The one example where this doesn't apply is Phil Swift, who is the CEO of Flex Seal but also the guy at the forefront of those demonstration. If I recall correctly.

Are they independent of the god they come from? Getting into the really specific stuff: English gets messy with words and can use avatar and incarnation interchangeably. This is a generalization I make as well. It sounds like you are looking for a specific answer to fit a question. An avatar is a deity taking some form of alternative form to interact with mortals: like an animal, or with the company examples, Undercover Boss. An incarnation is some form of creation of the deity not under direct control: like Jesus or Snap, Crackle, and Pop. They are representative of some higher power: the christian god and Kellanova, respectively. What is the context behind this question?

...the simple answer is that killing an avatar will not kill the god. You've already gotten the point of my question about the diamond.
An aspect or an avatar is to the facet as the god is to the jewel as a whole.

It could be, depending on the deity's preferences, but it's not a strict constant that applies to all aspects/avatars/incarnations. You remember that one episode of Batman the animated series where Clayface creates a person out of his body? One who's entirely sentient, sapient even, but still an extension of Clayface.
I guess my answer boils down to: it depends if what you're looking for is a divine hand-puppet that the god directly speaks through and controls, a representative who acts on their own at the god's behest, or a weaker alter-ego that the god assumes (ala Bahamut in D&D or Rama in Ramayana); all options are equally viable and not mutually exclusive. Although typing this out, option 3 might not be that applicable.

The implication is that the order gods live on mt celestia, the chaos gods vibe in the abyss, and the various members of the grey council vary depending on which one you're talking about. But! they can show up almost anywhere they damn please. Or at least some of them, and with the caveat of "everyone else in the general vicinity will react appropriately". Bahamut is a dragon after all. The biggest and strongest dragon to ever dragon, so great and mighty that he very much matches the other gods in power, but he's still a dragon, a corporeal entity that can walk around and, do things. Its just that most don't leave their personal lair very often because they are presumably working on something of far grander scale in their basement and can't be bothered to go deal with every little thing in the wheel personally when just sending a couple daemons, acolytes, or maybe a chosen will do.
