Mind flayers are known to cross the vast gulfs of The Wheel in their nautiloid ships, and it was on one such excursion through The Warp that a fleet of illithids on a mission of exploration came in contact with the unspeakable force they named Thoon. These illithids returned (or were sent back) warped in mind and body, fanatically devoted to the worship of Thoon, which they described alternately as either a god or philosophy. When questioned, they answer only that “Thoon is Thoon, and Thoon is all.” Thoon’s priests claim to receive mental instructions from this mysterious force, but whether Thoon truly speaks to them or they are simply mad, few can say.
The mind flayers of Thoon terrify other illithids, who see the Thoon flayers as heretics and fear the spread of their alien philosophy. The Thoon see themselves as the Superior Illithid species and pursue the utter eradication of their weaker kin and their Aboleth Masters. Engaging in genetic engineering, bio-alchemy and breeding programs to further improve upon themselves and further cement their superiority to all as proof of their god's superiority.

Physical Qualities:
At first glance, one would not be able to tell the difference between the Flayers of Thoon and a normal Mindflayer, I mean it could easily just be a Flayer who lifts!!! But the similarities end at the squid head. Thoon Flayers typically dwarf Mindflayers and most other species in height, build, and resilience; years of selective breeding and constant gene editing of clone bodies has guaranteed this. Their skin colors are typically deep, vibrant purples, with occasional splotches of vibrant blues, reds, or greens.
They have longer, more muscular tentacles than their kin, which follows suit with the obvious hypertrophy the rest of their body is in a constant state of. Male Thoon Flayers have exaggerated features, expansive frames and muscle mass the strains the skin. Female Thoon Flayers while not in the extreme case of their male counterparts still posses similarly exaggerated, hypertrophic features but have more lithe figures, and longer more elongated limbs, and slender hands making them way more adapted towards technical roles.
Thoon diets besides the obvious brains(mainly lab-grown Clone Brains, an actual developed brain from a fully living creature is a delicacy) consist of synth-paste rations, chemically engineered nutrition supplements, and a cocktail of stimulants, designed to get them through the day and keep them in peak functioning order as most of the Thoon are a Fleet based species which would normally atrophy other species. Thoon planet-side colonies typically develop even more physically imposing Thoon as the acting force of gravity along with the continued regimented diets, as well as colonized Thoon being able to incorporate a wider variety of native DNA samples to create clone bodies to later undergo ceremorphosis.
Playing as the Thoon
Thoon having separated from their hated "kin" have begrudgingly accepted the fact that they need other species to survive and reproduce and embrace "coexistence" with other species. Hopefully in mutual Hatred of Mind Flayers and Aboleths, the Thoon find Mind Flayers weak due to their subservience to the Aboleths and need them to be purged, they are embarrassed and insulted that something that resembles them so closely could be so pathetic. Thoon "coexistence" is described simply, they provide service and aid and are typically paid in genetic material to be sent back to the colonies to diversify the cloning farms. They also usually find easy relations with the Dark Eldarin due to their various "cultural similarities", as well as with most other chaotic races.
Thoon are a newer species to the wheel and are still quite the rarity, but they have expanded rather quickly for such a fledgling race. They are not familiar with most other races of the wheel besides the far spanning races, and their presence in Sigil as they have very little respect for such a large city that is held under the sway of a singular entity that is not Thoon; only entering the city out of necessity and for only brief periods of time. They respect the rule of law in Sigil begrudgingly as their first encounter with the lady of pain led to the utter destruction of an entire Nautilid Ship and all it's inhabitants.
