Summoners are latent psykers and astropaths that have made contact with an entity in the Warp known as an Eidolon. These Eidolons are a kind of memory and reflection of a famous or infamous individual, one who’s deeds have become legend. An Eidolon’s appearance, form, and abilities are not always representative of the figure’s capabilities in life. This isn’t just due to spinning myth: the Eidolon is its own being separate from the individual they were spawned from. Many come to reflect narrow aspects of the being’s greatest convictions or strongest emotions. An Eidolon consumed by rage could appear as a bull wreathed in flame just as it could appear as a bold man with furrowed brows.
After making contact with an Eidolon a pact is made. In exchange for service to the Summoner the Eidolon receives tribute, growing their notoriety, their core essence. Once a pact is made it must be followed, however sometimes an Eidolon calls for more than just a flow of tokens and praise: an Eidolon may call for a quest to be followed as a stipulation for the pact, usually fulfilling old dreams and grudges.
Tell: When Summoners spend Tribute for more subtle purposes, they still must tap into the power of their Eidolon to achieve it. At higher levels of Tribute spent a visible portal into the Warp is exposed to nearby mortals, revealing the Eidolon looming just beyond.
Powers:
Eidolon: The Summoner has made contact with a terrifyingly powerful entity known as an Eidolon. The Eidolon is created like a player character with no race, no Exaltation, and no assets or hindrances, and its only backgrounds can be Artifact and Inheritance. The Eidolon has 50% more starting XP, and it receives 50% more XP than a typical character.
Mythologic: The Eidolon’s size is up to 10, and it only speaks Primordial, though it understands the Summoner. It has magical attacks and the Stuff of Nightmares plus Unnatural Toughness traits. Should it somehow be defeated in combat it re-manifests itself sometime next session.
Enochian Call: The Summoner may take a Full Action and spend 1 Tribute to partially summon their Eidolon which briefly appears and takes a Half Action.
Tributary: The Summoner only receives half the XP of a typical character after character creation.
Power Stat: Invocation
When a Summoner creates a pact with an Eidolon their initial connection is weak, and maintaining a rift to the Warp to channel their power will be quite difficult. This, like any skill, takes time. As the Summoner improves their Invocation they not only improve their skills, but their understanding of their Eidolon’s past.
Resource Stat: Tribute. The Summoner has an amount of Tribute equal to their level plus their Eidolon’s level. At the end of any combat the Summoner can collect an amount of Tribute equal to the number of newly fallen combatants, though not from minions.
Invocation | Power Gained |
★ | Summon - The Summoner may spend a Full Action to open a rift into the Warp and summon their Eidolon before them. The Eidolon acts on the Summoner's initiative. At the beginning of subsequent turns the Summoner must spend a Full Action to keep the rift open to maintain the summoning. The Summoner can only keep their Eidolon summoned for a number of rounds per session equal to their Invocation, but Hero Points may be spent to extend a summoning or force a new one. |
★★ | Offering - The Summoner may spend Tribute when summoning their Eidolon to give them the Resource Stat trait at twice the Tribute spent. The Eidolon may spend 1 Resource Point to exchange actions with the Summoner, either each taking a Half Action or the Summoner taking a Full Action. |
★★★ | Projection - The Eidolon may be up to size 20 and they may take a Run action as a free action when first summoned in a scene. |
★★★★ | Beseech - The Summoner may spend 1 Tribute to allow the Eidolon to reroll any dice roll. |
★★★★★ | Overdrive - The Eidolon may be up to size 30 and creates a unique Special Attack or Spell Combo. This unique attack or spell may only be used on the fifth round of summoning in a session or later. If it is a Special Attack it may contain 20 points of Advantages without need for restrictions, and if it is a Spell Combo it gains 10 raises to the Focus Power test. This attack or spell costs no XP to create, but after being used the Eidolon ends the summoning for the rest of the scene. |
Summoner Eidolon Assets
Dragon
Only the greatest of spirits earn the greatest of forms. Your Eidolon gains all the benefits of the Dragon Form spell; the bite attack gains Brawling, Tearing, and +1k0 damage, the flamer attack has unlimited uses, 80m range, and +3k1 damage.
Elemental Archfiend
The form of this Eidolon reflects the inner emotions of the being that spawned it, from fiery passion to icy disdain. Your Eidolon is immune to E type damage, and any effects tied to such attacks. They also apply one of the following properties to all their damaging attacks and spells:
Fire Incendiary
Ice Snare
Bolt Shocking
Familiar
These Eidolon are the most mysterious. Their form does not betray their past or history, as if they wish to forget. While inactive your Eidolon remains by your side, reducing its size to 1, and functioning as a familiar you can psychically converse with. It can speak and move as normal, but its combat capabilities are nonexistent. Enochian Call no longer requires spending Tribute, and when fully summoned it grows to its true size and power.
Legend
For many Eidolons their form in life is the form they cling to in memory. Your Eidolon treats all of their equipment and ammo as being made of a particular Artifact Material unless it was already an Artifact, and they choose a race at character creation.
NEO Phantasm
The form of this Eidolon reflects the beliefs or philosophy of its original creator, appearing as hulking metallic behemoths and chromed beasts. Your Eidolon can take dots of Holdings at character creation, these dots do not require other backgrounds to maintain. At Invocation 3 if the Eidolon owns a vehicle it is summoned with any level of momentum desired.
