Berks think self-defense means lugging rocket launchers and assault rifles everywhere they go. Proponents of the Gray Person discipline believe otherwise. One can minimize incoming aggression and stay out of the line of fire simply by blending into the crowd of noncombatants. As such, Disguise is an important skill to ensure one would avoid standing out too much until emergency situations come about. Some cynics believe that the objective is to not have the aggressor point their gun at you so you can point your gun at them. After all, the only thing that can stop a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. This Gun Kata is slowly dying out because newer practitioners miss the entire point of its doctrine by focusing on looking "tacticool" over actually concealing themselves.
Level 1: Apprentice
- Trigger Discipline: You may choose Called Shot as the action of your Overwatch.
- Action (Overwatch): Use Overwatch actions with trick shots. Any attack-related advantages applied to this trick shot are instead applied to the attack triggered by the Overwatch action, which cannot itself be a trick shot. Any skill-based restrictions for Overwatch-based trick shots must be rolled against a TN of 20, rather than the static defense of the target.
Level 2: Initiate
(-2) Detection Apprehension: This attack can't be used on anyone who performed an action with the Attack subtype against you since your last turn.
(1) Concealed Carry: You may ready a Pistol ranged weapon before attacking. If you have the Quick Draw feat, you may ready a Basic ranged weapon instead.
Level 3: Journeyman
(-1) Skill (Disguise): As part of this attack, make a Disguise check against the target's Static Defense. If it fails, the attack fails.
(-1) Duty to Retreat: You cannot take any action that has the Attack subtype on your next turn.
Level 4: Master
- Situational Awareness: You may extend your Overwatch to a 360 degree radius around yourself. If you do, you can't attack anyone beyond 20m.
- Stand Your Ground: You can perform Dodge and Parry actions without ending Overwatch as long as you don't move from your original position.
Level 5: Grandmaster
- Beneath Notice: As long as an enemy hasn't witnessed you being visibly armed or making an attack, they can't target you with their own attacks unless they roll Wisdom or Scrutiny against your Mental Defense. Once an enemy has passed this test or you break the conditions that prevent them from attacking you, they may attack you normally for the rest of the encounter. If you have the Worf Effect feat, enemies are only affected by it after overcoming this ability.
