Okay, so, didn't have it together enough to talk about this when I posted it last night, so here goes: Yes, it's based in no small part on JRPGs, with a little bit of modern isekai.

Traditionally, the Hero is durable and capable of using steel and sorcery in equal measure, mostly because the original had to go it alone. Most JRPG Heroes are slightly skewed toward one side or the other; I've chosen to lean more toward the physical, specifically melee. The weak points here are as follows: You'll have to cross-class to get gun kata or schools for using Thrown weapons (not to mention you won't be proficient with non-Thrown ranged weapons in-class), and you're probably going to be a bit slower than your buddies (both movement and reaction time) due to DEX not being a class characteristic. Advancing through this class is a bit slow, too, especially if you're like me and refuse to touch base classes.

On the isekai side, the focus on characteristics for both advancement and completion is pretty much it. There's a couple games where Hero is an all-stats-up sort of class, but that's also where it seems to fall in LNs as a rule. So you need to shore up those weak spots. Starting characteristic dots will be sufficient to start out as a Hero, but you need to work on everything to continue. A true Hero has no weak areas!
