Deep under the oceans of the Ryphorian colony world Kalo-Mahoi, a race of fish-like beings lives in the cold, dark water. They have not central government, preferring a confederation that uses social programs to keep themselves bound together. They're called many things. "Sharks", "piranhas", "freaky fish guys", and other un-poetic titles. These creatures call themselves Kalos, not to be confused with the country on Theah.

Physical Qualities
Kalos have dermal denticles, usually abrasive and painful to touch but a Kalo can "turn it down" to be smooth and harmless. Some have a membrane on or even connecting their arms and legs, likening them to bats. These are actually fins, but calling Kalos "sea bats" is a common slur as a result.
The frontal lobe of Kalos aren't as closely connected to the hind brain as in most other races. This means while they aren't stupid, they have short tempers and go into rages with less provocation than most of us.
Playing a Kalo
Kalos believe they are descended from a god named Rangu, who came from another world to their own Kalo-Mahoi. They have little sense of self in public, and live together not based on familial ties but on chosen bonds. Kalo are hatched in a communal hospital and sent to neighboring villages, so few Kalo ever find out who their biological parents are.
Every Kalo has a creative outlet of some sort. They don't obsess over it like the Cecaelia or the Ryphorians but they feel that self-expression is a healthy and necessary part of being. This makes their craftsmen renowned for their creativity.
Kalo Heroes
Abe Sapien is a fish-man on a fish-mission. He sought to cure a mutation that cursed his clan, but inadvertently cursed them with an even worse fate. He seeks to undo that curse and right his wrongs, and it has led him on a road to damnation.
Mipha is the princess of Kalo-Mahoi, the favorite daughter of king Dorephan. She seeks to visit the surface of her world, to see an elf she is smitten with. She made a deal with a cecaelia to trade her voice for unmatched crafting abilities to fulfill her goal of making him a shield that will protect him from all harm.
Trixie is a criminal. Or rather, was a criminal. He wandered his world for decades on the fringes of civilization and became king by his own hand. He sought adventure in distant lands until at last he found his own kingdom and wore his crown upon a troubled brow. But that is another story.
