Created by the Syrne as cute collectible pets, the Unicorns have long since fallen upon hard times. Devout worshipers of the Blessed Pantheon, the destruction of their home Sphere by a Black Crusade has put the Unicorns on a fast track to extinction. Innumerable Unicorns were chased into the Abyss by the Red Bulls of Khorne eons ago, and the fact of race's existence has degraded into myth and legend on many worlds since then.
The Unicorns are a dying breed, hunted for their enchanted horns and magically charged blood. With their homes and culture destroyed, the last Unicorns have only their innate mystical talents to protect them from an incredibly hostile Wheel that they must adapt to or die in. Due to their desperation, your average Unicorn travels in disguise, with a group, or with a lascannon strapped to their backs. Most often, it's at least two out of three.

Physical Qualities
With their small, quadrupedal bodies, Unicorns bear a great resemblance to domesticated ponies, only with larger heads, expressive faces, long horns, and a multichromatic range of coat colors. Their quadrupedal body plan makes it hard to knock a Unicorn down on accident, but also causes them some hassle when it comes to getting back up again. The fact that quadrupeds are uncommon as space-faring races can make purchasing clothes and gear for them a bit of a pain, but you'd be surprised at how far a 'One Size Fits All' can be stretched in the Age of the Imperium.
Like Wraithbone, the Unicorn horn is capable of channeling energy directly from the Warp, making each and every Unicorn a natural sorcerer from birth. How the Unicorns managed to exist long enough for someone to nearly wipe them out is unknown. Regardless, this readily available access to magical energy allowed the Unicorns to survive and thrive in what would otherwise be inhospitable Death Worlds. Their natural magic also allows for stranger quirks, such as being able to perform manual feats of dexterity with their hooves. It's best not to dwell too much about the latter.
In terms of hair styles, male Unicorns often grow out their beards, while female Unicorns like to braid their long manes and tails. You're not likely to see these hair styles, though, due to the fact that Unicorns so rarely show themselves as they are to strangers. Using magical disguises is not an uncommon practice for the Unicorns, who seem to prefer the shapes of Elves and Eldarin to other races. After all, they're common enough that one would hardly stand out in a crowded spaceport. Of course, any smart Unicorn alters their disguise to fit
whatever would be best for their location.
Playing a Unicorn
For as long as they've been around, the Unicorns have been stereotyped as being too soft to handle the grim darkness and endless warfare of the Great Wheel. This description is depressingly accurate; their trusting natures and obstinate belief in pacifism led to the Unicorn's home Sphere being cast into the Warp and their people's abuse and/or subjugation by just about anyone and everyone they encountered. Though they're still nicer than most things you'll run into out there, the remaining Unicorn enclaves are pragmatic when it comes to dealing with outsiders. They have to be, lest they all be hunted down for their magical horns. Due to their fairly justified paranoia, earning the trust of a Unicorn is easier said than done.
Aside from that, Unicorns make for very good specialists, doing what they're great at with the expectation that their allies will cover their weaknesses. Though naturally pacifistic, you should never forget that a Unicorn can get violent like anything else in the Wheel when they're threatened or otherwise chased into a corner. Being a naturally harmonious lot with a great history of serving the Blessed Pantheon, it's rare to see a Unicorn (assuming you see one) worshiping anything that isn't Order. Some Unicorns, though rare, prefer the freedom of Luna to the security of Order. Don't hold your breath on a Unicorn that worships Chaos, though -- the Abyss is full of Unicorn skeletons, and they don't happen to have bodies attached to them anymore.
Unicorn Heroes
Considering that the rest of the royal family didn't fare so well against orbital bombardment, Princess Amalthea has reason to believe that she's the last royal of the Unicorn people. In spite of the many losses her people have faced, Amalthea refuses to give up hope for their survival. She seeks to form an alliance with other disenfranchised races across the Great Wheel in a desperate gamble to save the Unicorns from total annihilation. When not orchestrating complex political machinations, Machiavellian Princess collects and studies lost tomes from Unicorn Antiquity.
Spectrum Ramjet is an absolutely dazzling rainbow-colored Unicorn that likes to go fast. She's so fast, you could say that she's faster than fast. In fact, it could be said that she goes so fast, she makes 'fast' seem slow in comparison. She's confident that she's the fastest thing on the ground, and sometimes the fastest thing in the air when she gets a running start. She's never stopped to think about why she can go so fast (or for anything else, really), but in the end it doesn't matter. All that matters is that once she starts building up speed, nothing can slow Spectrum down for long.
A humble Unicorn plumber, Valve P. Turner lives on a dilapidated Hive World in great need of his services. While snaking a kilometer long drain, the plumber came across a curious mass of plumbing machine spirits. Bonding with the poor, neglected creatures, Turner used his newfound abilities to fight the evil gangers, mutants, and mutant gangers that congregated underneath his city. From his porcelain throne at the center of his heavily-armed Panzer, Valve Turner fights for what's right with all of the grace and poise you would expect from a tank made out of shit and plasteel.
Unicorn Racial Feats
Adorable [Unicorn]
The Syrne made you too well; first impressions of you are often overwhelmingly positive. Upon meeting a non-hostile NPC for the first time, you may make a Charm roll against their Mental Defense. If you beat their Mental Defense, the NPC starts at a Friendly Disposition with you, and the TN to deteriorate this Disposition is increased by 5.
Draft Horse [Unicorn]
You're good at pulling your weight, and then some. Treat your Strength as 2 higher for the purposes of pushing, pulling, lifting, or carrying things.
Majesty [Unicorn, Paragon]
You exude an aura that makes creatures second guess seeking to harm you. The first time an enemy declares an unprovoked attack against you in a scene, they must make a Hard (TN 20) Willpower test. Unless the attacker passes their test, the attack fails and they cannot target you for another attack unless you are the only target available or you attack them.
Rare Breed [Unicorn] (Note: This feat can only be purchased at character creation.)
The wild magic in your blood can express itself in various strange ways. Select one of the following benefits.
Asperi: You gain the Feather Step feat and can Fly at your ground speed.
Celestial Charger: Your horn becomes a natural weapon with the following profile (0k1 R, Pen 2, Melee, Brawling) and can be used as a Torch.
Nightmare: Your unarmed strikes gain the Incendiary property. If you take Majesty, replace the Willpower test with a TN 20 Fear test.
Psi-Pony: You can telekinetically manipulate any unattended object within (Wisdom) meters of you. Your Strength and Dexterity with your telekinesis is 1.
Chollima: You gain the Quadruped feat, when hit, a 5 and 6 hit a second left leg and right leg, respectively.
Talent Glyph [Unicorn]
If the Blessed Order likes anything, it's giving everyone a specific job and making them really good at it. Select a skill. You gain a free Dot and a free Specialty in that skill. Add a static bonus equal to your level on all tests that this specialty applies to.
