In DtD I
always play a reference character one way or another, there's something special about the crossover-y nature of the system that lets me stat almost anything. The only time I didn't was for a solo campaign.
General FaiHuman
Overlord (Artillery Rule)
Warfighter (with a dip in
Gunrunner by late-game).
Reference: Command and Conquer Generals - Zero Hour
Summary: Also known as "The Anvil", he is a General from
Space China Hinanawi sent to investigate a Warp disturbance on a nearby planet. He will bury you under a mountain of troops!
What Worked: The Overlord's custom spirits, had a lot of fun with them (Iron Boar, Silent Archer, Walking Furnace, Siege Princess and Crashing Landslide). Also, Warfighter's Killstreak Rewards working as I wanted it.
What Didn't: The minions themselves, what's the point of holding a parade on my enemies' faces if they're horrid?
What Made Him Fun: I managed to kill a building using generous usage of my Warfighter feats as well as impose my glorious presence for everyone to gawk at.
Other trivia: I joined the campaign late. The Warfighter and Overlord I used were of an older iteration (the latter one with something called Rift Stone). Also, I had to wake up at 3am just to join this campaign because time zones are pain.
Tsugu-MinPromethean
Cyclops Gunrunner
Reference: Contra
Summary: Little cyclops robot with a gun for an arm
Other trivia: Was made for a one-shot with me and another player, while waiting for the others to show up. She didn't really do much aside from shoot a halfling.
Kirisviel EminzbernKor Wellspring Dip in
Secret Service then
InsurgentReference: Fate/Zero
Summary: Grimdark magical girl follower of the Raven Queen who believes in sacrificing the few for the majority.
What Worked: Well, managed to pull off the "weak but dirty fighter" thing, winning an encounter by sniping from the shadows.
What Didn't: So much for skulking in the shadows, what made me switch characters in the middle of this campaign is that all it took was one swipe from a Black Spiral werewolf and I need to burn a Hero Point so early.
What Made Her Fun: Through use of my Chronokinesis, I made tons of bombs, also I rolled so high on Stealth that I'm practically invisible until I corrected an NPC on something.
Other trivia: Her name is a fusion of Kiritsugu Emiya and Irisviel Einzbern.
This would've been her character portrait but I changed my mind for some dumb reason. Maybe it's because she wears her Warpnode Device (a Rebreather) all the time.
SpartacusKython (Galerider, Gorebrute, Truedive)
Spawn (Mutant lineage)
Sacrificial Lion (with a little bit of
War Hulk)
Reference: Fate/Apocrypha and Fate/Grand Order
Summary: He used to be a hero of the rebellion, now, not so much. Time has not been kind to him as the myriad of adventures has taken its toll on his form. Now he's only a shell of his former self, used by Kirisviel as a walking tool of destruction.
What Worked: Ginormous HP and tons of +Strength from mutations
What Didn't: None to my mind, I'm satisfied.
What Made Him Fun: "OPPRESSION?! BWUAAAARRRRGH!!!" Also brute forcing my way through problems and getting benefits from status conditions.
Other trivia: Has Kaban from Kemono Friends as an Escort Mission hindrance, and yet Spartacus was the most dangerous thing to her due to having Fear 3 constantly.
Lieutenant Alice L. Malvin (the blonde woman on the right)Pleiadian Paragon Multi-classer
Reference: Pumpkin Scissors
Summary: A member of the nobility from House Malvin, she decided she does not like being an uppity noble and has taken it upon herself to be a shining beacon of justice, an actual good girl in Sigil's Bleak Cabal (as crazy as it is). Let's see how her naive justice plays out versus the world.
What Worked: As the party face, her high social characteristics and skills played to her favor.
What Didn't: I gave her some fighting ability but not "fend off the threat" and no Ballistics means her only spells are Magic Missile and Force Sphere.
What Made Her Fun: Sheer contrast with the rest of her party, being cutters who err on the side of collateral damage.
Other trivia: Due to a few stray "Awoo" and an incident with Psychic Phenomena, she now has a derangement that drives her to howl at inappropriate times, despite her alignment not being Luna. Also, at the middle of the campaign she up and left because the chaos was too much.
Ryoma Sakamoto (and his Dragonblooded wife, Oryo)Human
Mastermind Courtier/
ConsultantReference: Koha-Ace and Fate/Grand Order
Summary: One of the three founding members of the Centerfold Ministry, Ryoma the Ambassador (with help of his dragon wife) are out to change the status quo.
Other trivia: Alice's replacement. Oryo refers to herself in 3rd person and Ryoma has a phobia for assassination attempts. These two dorks joined late in the campaign and after a couple of sessions, I got IRL'd too hard to participate in the rest of them.
One thing I'm starting to realize is that aside from references, I plan characters with "cinematic moments" I want to have in mind. Kirisviel was supposed to explode someone with her bombs (probably an innocent person as an unwitting kamikaze). I wanted EMIYA (I didn't list him here, it was for a one-shot) to shoot a sword from his bow, charged with Broken Phantasm and imbued with Orgone Array (to warp the target and all allies around it). Spartacus was imagined to kill something in one or two hits from sheer force. Ryouma's dragon wife was supposed to go Maximum Dragoning and become a
sweet riding steed for him.
(to refine later)
