The Lone Star Rangers are an elite wing of Sigil's combined military forces. Rangers are tasked with scouting dangerous sectors, providing protection to distant outposts, fostering relationships with unaffiliated locals, and most feared of all: apprehending and putting down fugitives. Only troops that show exceptional marksmanship, written test scores, and a commitment to Sigil are given recommendation to apply for the Lone Star Rangers. Even after receiving recommendation the rate of attrition is over 40%, often still leaving with marks ensuring a sharpshooter, or command position.
To receive the elite training of the Lone Star Rangers is a high privilege not often afforded to those uncommitted to a life of service. Lone Star Rangers get their name from the nature of their missions often leaving them with little to no assistance for months at a time. Scrutiny is their key skill, which is required to tell a friendly face from one ready to shoot you in the back. Rangers prefer reliable and easily serviced weaponry as they can go through hundreds of rounds of ammunition without a ready replacement. With their accuracy and skill a Ranger prefers the Multiple Attacks action in place of traditional sharpshooting, their grouping is accurate enough to stay on target from hundreds of meters away. While there are many towns and space ports run over by bandits and outlaws a Lone Star Ranger fears no place, and will not be deterred by any desperado.
You may take this gun kata in place of the Tin Star gun kata.
Level 1: Bondsman
One Shot Reload: You may load a single round into a pistol or basic type ranged weapon as a reaction that provokes opportunity attacks. This may be done in between attacks and causes your weapon to count as having a clip size larger than 1 for the purposes of interacting with feats such as Double Tap. Whenever you spend a reaction on making an attack with the Multiple Attacks action with a pistol or basic type ranged weapon you also make a single round reload with it.
Action (Multiple Attacks): Use Multiple Attacks actions with trick shots. Any advantages applied to this Trick Shot are applied to the first attack of the Multiple Attacks action. That attack may not be a Trick Shot.
Level 2: Scout
(-1) Cowboy Spirit: This attack may only be made with Ordinary ranged weapons.
(1) Wanted: This attack also functions as if you had applied the effect of the Arcane Mark feat, rolling Scrutiny + Composure in place of Arcana + Intelligence. The number of targets able to be marked remains at one, and is shared with Arcane Mark.
Level 3: Lawman
(-1) Skill (Scrutiny): As a part of this attack, make a Scrutiny test against the target's Static Defense. If it fails, the attack fails.
(2) Dead or Alive: If your attack would deal any wounds it deals one additional wound. If your attack would cause a Critical Damage result that results in death you may cause the recipient to instead take an amount of fatigue sufficient to render them unconscious.
Level 4: Deputy
(-2) Frontier Justice: You may only use this Trick Shot against an enemy that has dealt wounds to you or an ally since the beginning of their last turn.
Fastest Hands in the Wheel: If you roll the highest for initiative and are not surprised, add your initiative to all Ballistics rolls on your first turn.
Level 5: Ranger
(5) Gallery Shooting: Until your next turn, your ranged damage rolls with this weapon gain +1k0 rolled dice for every two raises made on the attack roll.
