A shotgun is a tool. A scalpel is a tool. Thus, a Shotgun is a scalpel. The fact is, anything can be anything else, if you’re brave enough. The problem faced is that many people aren’t brave enough to face a shotgun at spitting distance, and a shotgun may as well just be spitting beyond that. However, disciples of Shotgun Surgery learn to operate at any range, carefully targeting with precision on par with the most stellar of snipers.
Shotgun Surgeon is said to have been named after the one that developed the art, a doctor employed to operate on Dragon during the height of their Empire, and the tools he needed to do so. His medical findings proved useful during the Tiamat Heresy, and that dark path lives on today with practitioners using the art to shoot down everything from police to police helicopters. In the end, it is said he turned his talents on him self, unable to live with how the Wheel used what he had created.
A character entering the first level of any class progression that offers the Silent Scope Gun Kata can choose instead to gain access to the Shotgun Surgeon Gun Kata from that class. The inversion holds true as well, with classes with the Shotgun Surgeon style being able to substitute in Silent Scope instead. This choice applies only when entering the first level of a class, and applies to all levels in that class's progression afterward.
Level 1: Apprentice
-Both Barrels: Your attacks gain the Twin Linked property when you use weapons which inherently have the Scatter Property.
-Action (Called Shot): Use Called Shot actions with Trick Shots.
Level 2: Initiate
(-1)Gauge: This attack deals no damage against targets with the same Size as you.
(1)Surgical Shot: For every two raises on the attack roll, this attack gains 2 penetration.
Level 3: Journeyman
(-1)Skill (Medicae): As part of this attack, make an Medicae test against the Static Defense of the target. If it fails, the attack fails.
(3)And Stay Back: This attack gains the Momentum Property.
Level 4: Master
-All Choked Up: When using a weapon which inherently has the Scatter Property within the weapon's Short Range, every two raises you get on the attack roll increases the damage dealt by +1k0 so long as the attack did not benefit from an Aim action.
(5)For the Birds: This attack deals double damage against flying targets.
Level 5: Grandmaster
(4)Mouthwash: This attack is considered to be within Point Blank Range for the purposes of bonuses and modifiers, although it still automatically misses on attacks which would be beyond the weapon's Extreme Range.
