Homebrew Exalt: Afflicted
Through ignorance, greed or folly the Afflicted served some dark design and are now doomed to pay for their sins. Their only master now is the hatred they carry for every living thing. Drawing strength from the death of all they encounter, the Afflicted become terrifying combatants. Worse, any who approach the Cursed can be driven to their knees by their terrible aura.
Some become Afflicted by upsetting a deity, or a horrible twist of fate. A few deranged, or desperate, individuals instead seek this terrible power out, hoping that the power granted will offset its horrible price. One thing is certain, those afflicted will resent the world and those that live peaceful lives, untouched by blight.
Powers:
Gloom: You emit a dark and oppressive aura that stifles the will of those near you. You gain an aura with a radius of 2 meters per dot of Affliction. Within this aura, enemies take a check to all tests made to resist harmful effects.
Cursed Form: Your affliction has wracked your body, making it even more reliant on your hatred to keep functioning. You and allies take a check to all tests made to heal you via any means for every two points of Hate you are missing, and you heal one less wound for every three points of Hate missing, to a minimum of 1.
Dark Sustenance: You revel in the echoes a soul leaves behind as it is flung into the Warp, feeding on the lifeforce of those you slay. Whenever you kill an enemy, you regain Hit Points equal to half that enemy’s level or your Affliction, whichever is lower. This healing is not reduced by Cursed Form.
Unbroken Will: Although your body and soul are wracked by your affliction, your mind does not break as easily. You can go up to six dots in Willpower, and gain a static bonus on Willpower tests equal to your Affliction.
Power Stat: Affliction. A dark force blights your soul, yet you draw strength from its unnatural energies. In time, your immeasurable hatred is all that stands between your soul and oblivion, yet your might will ruin all that dares to oppose you.
Resource Stat: Hate. Hate has become your world, for it holds your body together even as it erodes all you touch. Unless fed, your hatred ebbs, leaving you weak and without purpose. You have 10 Hate, and you lose 1 point of Hate every hour you are not in combat. You regain hate equal to your Affliction whenever you deal critical damage, kill an enemy, suffer critical damage or spend an hour doing nothing but seethe in hatred.
Tell: Your affliction is a blight upon your soul, and your body reflects that taint as you focus on its power. Whenever you spend Hate your entire body exudes menace and malice, and your aura of Gloom becomes more visible. At high Tell, your form seems shrouded in shadows, with only your smouldering glare visible.
Affliction/Power Granted:
1 FROM HELL’S HEART I STAB AT THEE: Gain a static bonus to damage rolls equal to half your remaining Hate.
2 Bloody Lust: Each time you kill an enemy, you gain a cumulative +1 static bonus on damage rolls for the rest of the scene.
3: Resentment: Each time you take damage or suffer a harmful condition, you gain a +1k0 on attack rolls for the rest of the scene, up to a maximum of your Affliction.
4: The power of Hate: You can choose to double the effects of spending Hate, but if you do, you are unable to spend Hate during your next turn.
5: Undying Hate: As long as you have Hate left, you have the Stuff of Nightmares trait.
Affliction Assets:
Cursed: Your affliction manifested as a curse, blighting all that you touch. However, you have found a way to draw strength from these curses, becoming stronger even as it drags you down. You can curse objects as a half action by spending Hate as you touch them. People using cursed objects take a check to all tests made with it, additionally, you roll +1k0 per cursed object you are wielding on those tests. You can curse a number of objects equal to your Affliction. If you curse another object while already at your maximum, you can choose which object loses its curse.
Marked: Your affliction manifested as an unholy mark, attracting all manner of horrors who seek to end you. Yet, with hate and fury, you have slain those enemies and can enter a blinding rage in the most literal sense, yet even the lack of conscious sight does not impair you. You gain the frenzy feat, and while you are frenzied, you become immune to attacks which require you to see a particular object or person (such as Explosive Runes). You have a distinctive mark somewhere on your body, and enemies have a tendency to go for you when presented with multiple targets.
Unstable: Your affliction manifested as an unstable rend in the Warp, afflicting everything you do. However, you learned magic as a result. Warp Phenomena can apply on all tests you spend Hate on, with -10 to the result. Gain a free rank in a spell school, and you can advance that school as if it appeared on your class track. If you Warp Phenomena, reduce the result by 10.
Malfeasant:Your affliction burns with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns, searing out your heart and transforming your blood into a scorching liquid plasma. You have no heart and can never benefit from a bionic replacement. Once per scene per dot of Affliction, you can vomit up your fiery blood, making an attack using the profile of a Flamer. This attack is treated as a melee attack for the purpose of interacting with Frenzy. Finally, you gain a free specialty (Dancer) in Performer.
Antagonistic: Your affliction manifests in an uncanny antipathy, literally all of existence turned against you for your spiteful act of living. If you would gain rolled dice on a test as a result of player choice (stunting, resource points, etc.), you take a check on the roll for each die gained. Add half your remaining Hate as a static bonus on social attacks made to erode disposition, and halve the target's Willpower when determining how many times you have to do so for the effect to be permanent. Social combat spent eroding disposition is treated as actual combat for the purpose of Hate loss, and reducing someone to zero Resolve counts as killing someone with regards to powers granted by this exaltation.
Repressed: Your affliction manifests as a shackle on your desires, muting your thirst for violence. However, your rage is terrible to behold once it is unleashed. You may not initiate violence of any kind, only react. In combat, you gain a static bonus to initiative and attack rolls equal to your Affliction.
