Blastlings
The blastlings are a curious oddity within the wheel. A race of craftsmen who, of all things, explode. It is difficult to imagine what quirk of nature resulted in the evolution of a species that must explode to protect itself from predators. Therefore, one enterprising scholar posited it as proof of Emrakul's nonexistence, for such a sad and pitiable creature must have been created deliberately, and as this would prove Her existence there could be no faith in Her and thus She could not exist. This scholar then went on to prove that black is white, and was found mysteriously transmuted into a pillar of salt and soulsteel weeping strange orange fluid on the nearest zebra crossing.
Physical Characteristics
Average Height: .5-1m
Average Weight: 125-150kg
Common personality traits: Explosive personality, Blunt, Brave, Prideful, Short fuse
Common physical traits: Hard shell, Solid colored eyes, Sturdy, Circular, Short fuse
Example names: Tavish DeGroot, Megumin, Bobbery, Yoshikage, Bakugo
Racial Stats
Size: 4
Characteristics: +1 to Wisdom or Charisma
Skills: +1 to Crafts and Ballistics
Racial power: Selfdestruct: Once per scene, you may make an attack by exploding. It uses the same weapon profile as a Frag grenade centered on you, which does not hurt you or other blastlings. At Level 3 and 5 you gain an additional use of this power per scene.
Racial Feats:
Explosion: when using your Selfdestruct power, you may instead use the profile of a Cluster Fuck for the attack. Doing this reduces your hit points to zero and knocks you unconcious for 8-Constitution hours, to a minimum of 1.
Creeper's insight: After doing enough demolition jobs you've seen enough to take things in reverse. You gain a +2k0 bonus to crafts rolls when working with buildings and an architecture specialty in crafts.
Coughing bomb: Your Selfdestruct attack gains the smoke and toxic properties, your explosions releasing a cloud of deadly poisons.
[Paragon] Bomberman: You may spend an action point as a half-action to create a frag grenade. The frag grenade detonates at the start of your next turn.
Physical Qualities
Regardless of their origins, they are the very least a hardy folk. Any race that can blow itself up and survive ought to be. While most Blastlings naturally have legs, the same cannot be said about arms. Oddly enough those born without arms aren't hindered by this, as they can somehow manipulate nearby objects anyways. For reasons that have yet to be determined, this ability stops working on the side of the body that a bionic arm is implanted onto. Roughly half of all Blastlings have a humanoid stature, the other half more resembling a ball with short legs. The presence of arms, for some reason, does not seem to be part of this.
Playing a Blastling
Left to their own devices, Blastlings will usually from into simple societies; usually led by either the biggest, who thus has the strongest explosion, or the wisest, who can best direct their seemingly compulsive desire to build. Ironic then that whenever their towns are attacked most of the damage comes from the Blastlings themselves. The only place they try to avoid settling are the exceptionally warm, such as deserts. This is due to the fact that extreme heat can agitate their explosive bodies, potentially causing them to explode without warning. It's a shame then that they usually aren't left alone. Blastlings were first spread to the wheel at large by a Quadav warlord who saw fit to use their natural qualities as living weapons to help deal with a particularly bothersome human. From there they began being picked up as mercenaries, tasked with simply getting behind enemy lines and detonating where they can do the most damage.
The difference in behavior between a young and old Blastling is one of the most apparent of all races. The young easily let their emotions get the better of them, using up all their reserves in one go, and often at little provocation. As they age and see the consequences of this they start becoming more stoic, seeking to feed their desire to create over that to destroy. Usually. If you see a Blastling when you enter the room for an anger management course, the first thing you should do is see if they're the one running it or not. If they are, you'll have a good teacher. If they aren't, sit as far from them as possible.
Blastling heroes:
Known only by his codename and his heavy darksteel armor, agent "Sheer Heart Attack" has relentlessly pursued each and every target he's been sent after and reduced them to a pile of gore and ash. Such is his efficiency that his creators have gone on record proclaiming that he has no weaknesses.
The Voltaic Orb speeds past all opposition, frying his opponents with his powerful fulmination spells. Those few who have survived his assaults claim he bears a sadistic grin in combat. Perhaps he enjoys it too much, as he always explodes mid-fight against truely worthy opponents.
Lord Explosion Murder is, despite the name and nasty personality, one of the many self-proclaimed superheros wandering Sigil's streets. While he'll always save someone in need, it's sometimes hard to tell if it's because it's what's right, or if he just wants to outdo a certain font who has caught his ire.
