Homebrew Exalt: Oligarch
Wealth has been associated with Power, Prestige and Status for older than currency has existed and for as long as this has remained every thinking being has coveted... More. The Dragons hoarded their wealth, galactic wars have been waged for resources, the wheel is indeed greased by money and anything and everything does indeed have a price. An Oligarch is simply a being that has amassed such great fortune in perpetuity to the point of exaltation. Their Wealth so great the laws of the Universe bend itself towards their own fortune. An Oligarch isn't just rich, they're richer than God.
Static Powers:
Only the Best:
You double all the Numerical Benefits and Penalties for using Poor, Good, and Best quality equipment, using normal quality equipment is treated as using Poor Quality Equipment. You may add your Net-Worth as a static bonus to attacks with Good Quality Weapons and Twice your Net Worth with Best Quality Weapons.
Silver Spoonfed:
You've lived a sheltered life of Luxury, Comfort and Class which unfortunately, shielded you from the kind of Grit and Struggle that builds character. You have one fewer Hero Point, and all skills are now advanced skills.
Highrider:
You begin play with 7 additional background dots to place into backgrounds. Each background dot spent has its benefits doubled and you are Immune to Wealth Strain.
Master Fixer:
You know people, you know how to make your assets useful wherever you are. You always benefit from all of your backgrounds everywhere you go, if your background dots are static and in a different location you acquire their equivalents immediately upon entering a new, significant location(such as a city, planet, or crystal sphere, etc.).
Tell:
As an Oligarch spends Profit, by some means, technological, magical, spiritual, etc. they will be alerted to the impact their purchases will have on the local economy, their net worth, and the value of things at large. At some point their financial influence will start causing economic crises in mere seconds, people will begin panicking, breaking news will report it, bankers will jump out of windows etc..
Power Stat: Net-Worth:
An Oligarch is surrounded by an air of Competency, Charisma and Confidence as their Net-Worth raises. As they grow richer it becomes harder for anyone to imagine them not deserving to be in that position.
Resource Stat: Profit
Your Profit is your Net-Worth*5, at the Beginning of each session you must make a TN 15 Wealth Test. Regain 1 Profit on a success and for every 2 raises you regain 1 additional Profit.
Net-Worth|Power Gained:
1|Express Shipping:
When you Succeed on a Wealth Test to acquire an item, you may spend a Profit to acquire the item(s) in 10 Minutes or Less.
2|Market Forces:
After making a Wealth Test to regain Profit, you may hire Mercenaries by spending Profit equal to the level(s) of the hired mercenaries from among the following: Green Troops/Common Outlaws, Regular Troops/Rebels, Elite Soldiers/Raiders, Mortal Hero. These remain until the beginning of the next session, at which point you would have to re-hire them.
3|Master of Acquisition
The Oligarch may make a Wealth test to acquire additional backgrounds, with a TN equal to 10 + 5*(Background rating). They must Spend XP as they normally would.
4|I'll Take It:
Rather than simply acquiring just one item, you can just buy out the source. If the item was Mythic Rare or cheaper spend 1 Profit, otherwise spend additional Profit equal to the number of steps rarer it is. You now own the means to producing that item and can trivially acquire copies wherever you go. This can't be combined with abilities that speed up purchases, these things take time.
5|Too Big to Fail :
You've conquered death and secured your soul with your vast wealth and resources, mortality has become a mere triviality for anyone you deem worthwhile. Either through Cloning, Digital Transcendence, appropriated Syrneth Artifacts or literally buying a get out of hell insurance plan. Unless measures have been taken to separate you from your means of denying the reaper (and an oligarch can burn Hero points to foil this attempt) you and anyone else whose corpse you have access to will simply be brought back to life by some means at the earliest possible convenience.
Assets:
Master of Merchant Fleets:
You may make a Wealth test to regain Profit whenever you succeed in Spelljammer Combat, you gain a Holdings 1 Spelljammer and whenever you increase your Net-worth gain an additional Spelljammer with Holdings equal to your Net-Worth. The TN of Wealth tests to acquire Spelljammer Weapons and Modules is reduced by 5*Net-Worth for you.
Lord of War:
Your allies may also hire mercenaries from you using your Market Forces ability by spending an equal number of resource points and making a wealth test equal to 5*Profit cost. You regain Profit equal to total Profit Costs of all mercenaries your allies successfully bought this way.
Adventure Capitalist:
You aren't just some spoiled rich trust fund child, you pulled yourself up by your bootstraps with sheer grit and skill. Ignore the Effects of Silver Spoonfed and standard quality items no long count as Poor quality when using them.
Pricemaster:
When you make a Successful Social Attack you may replace it's effects with forcing it's recipient(s) to make an Acquisition Test of an item of your choosing that you own, Whether they Pass or Fail, they receive the item immediately. On a success they acquire the item and incur wealth strain as normal, on a failure the TN to acquire the item is doubled accruing wealth strain as normal. If a recipient would permanently lose Wealth this way, you gain that much Profit.
Social Climber: You may make a Wealth Test to regain Profit whenever you defeat an opponent(s) in Social Combat, at the beginning of Social Combat, before initiative is Rolled you may make a Wealth Test versus your opponent's Mental Defense, for each raise improve their Disposition one step. You may Spend a Profit when an opponent in Social Combat would become Jaded to your social attacks, if you do they do not become Jaded.
Oligarch Info:
Oligarchs in game:Oligarchs aren't really pinned down to a specific "Role" per-se as they have access to a vast plethora of items, equipment, vehicles artifacts, etc. to basically do whatever they feel like doing. While they don't specifically excel in the ways a typical Exalt would an Oligarch brings vast resources, expedites many narrative shortcomings involving needing specific gear, transport, housing, etc. a Party of Exalts containing an Oligarch shouldn't be running into the issue of being unprepared and underequipped.
Playing an Oligarch:Oligarchs naturally run into the question of "What do you get the man who has everything?" which could be a difficult challenge for the average player but don't be disheartened by that, in a world of great and powerful beings and reality bending forces there is always more out there for the aspiring Oligarch. That said, it's best to for an Oligarch Player to set goals outside of traditionally acquirable means, either defeating enemies, conquering the wheel or earning the praise of the masses to stoke your ego...there is something you can pursue out there.
Adapting Oligarch: While it may seem Oligarchs can only be the "Rich Guy", there is things you could do with it to be a bit creative. Maybe instead of a singular person, your Oligarch is a Corporate Entity and the current "player character" is just the current CEO being replaced each time a hero point is burnt to avoid death, or it's a bloodline backed by a vast inheritance, or maybe you are Archduke of the Greed Ring of Hell, who knows...get crazy with it.
